On August 7th the supplies of the reactor plant main equipment for the third unit of Kudankulam NPP in India were completed.

According to Andrey Lebedev, the Vice-President of JSC ASE EC for projects in India, all main equipment items located on the red line of the reactor pit installation have been supplied.

This is packaged equipment of the molten core catcher, embedded parts of the reactor pit, dry protection, heat-insulation of the cylindrical shell/barrel, truss buckstay, reactor vessel. A thrust truss and devices for neutron flux monitoring chambers allocation are expected to be delivered by the next shipload.

“Taking into account that four steam generators, a pressurizer, main coolant pipelines, a bubbler were delivered earlier, generally JSC ASE has completed the procurement of the containment equipment for power unit No.3 to ensure uninterruptible and continuous operation for the reactor plant construction which is on the critical path of the Project” — Andrey Lebedev mentioned.

Kudankulam NPP is being constructed in Tamil Nadu state of India within the scope of Russian-Indian agreement dated November 20th, 1988 and its attachments dated June 21st, 1998 and the Agreement as of December 08, 2008.
General Contractor (regarding detailed design, equipment supply and technical assistance) — Atomstroyexport JSC. General Designer — Atomenergoproekt JSC. Customer — Nuclear Power Corporation of India (Ltd) (NPCIL).

In October 2013 Unit No.1 of Kudankulam NPP was connected to the southern power grid. In August 2016 Unit No.2 of Kudankulam NPP was connected to the power grid. Units Nos. 3, 4 of Kudankulam NPP are under construction. The contracts for construction of Units Nos. 5 and 6 have been signed and the preparatory works are in progress.
