On March 31, 2020 at 7.20 p.m., the first 10kV section of power unit No.2 of Belarus NPP was energized according to the design layout (the General Designer and the General Contractor — Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division). The start of the voltage supply based on the standard diagram is a Milestone at the construction stage of each nuclear power unit.
During the first 72 hours of uninterrupted test operation, specialists will check the operability of all four 10kV sections of normal operation power supply system (20ВВА, 20ВВВ, 20ВВС, 20ВВD). After the compliance thereof with design parameters has been confirmed, the electric power can be supplied from this equipment to other facilities of the unit.
“Connecting the power unit under construction to the standard power supply diagram will be carried out in stages, — the essence of the forthcoming events was explained by Alexey Kononenko, the Director for Belarus NPP construction of JSC ASE EC. — First of all, the voltage will be provided for normal power supply systems, and then it will be distributed by electric supply systems of safety channels and after that to reactor plant, turbine hall and other facilities consumers”.
The unit power supply according to a standard diagram will allow specialists proceeding to full-scale start-up and commissioning works.
“Properly planned program of step-by-step voltage supply to required power supply, control, I&C systems will enable to develop start-up and commissioning works for process systems and equipment and ensure the unit availability for HT (hydraulic testing) and СF (circulation flushing) planned to be performed at the end of the year — the Vice President — Director for Belarus NPP Construction Project of ASE EC JSC, Vitaly Polyanin mentioned”.
Belarus NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors having a total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed in Ostrovets (Republic of Belarus). To construct the first NPP in Belarus, it has been decided to rely on the Russian 3+ generation design that is fully compliant with the international standards and IAEA safety recommendations.
