One of the key topics discussed at the meeting on October 9, 2008 was the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering. The parties pointed out with satisfaction that their energy cooperation was actively developing and expressed commitment to enlarge partner relations between Russian and Bulgarian power companies to develop mutually beneficial cooperation.
The protocol of the meeting points out the priority of Belene NPP project, the erection of which Atomstroyexport is performing. The document says that till 2010 the Russian Government is planning to issue a 3.8bln EUR credit for the project from the Federal Budget. Pursuant to the results of the meeting the parties have also decided to train personnel for the future NPP, including educational institutions of the Russian Federation.
According to President of Atomstroyexport CJSC Leonid Reznikov, “the company has closely complied and is still complying with its obligations under the project and would do its best to ensure a successful erection of the NPP.”

Atomstroyexport CJSC and the National electric company of Bulgaria (NEC) are realizing the largest project of the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation: erection of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant. Atomstroyexport won the bid for the realization of the project in 2006. The signing of the Contract Agreement for the erection of NPP Belene took place on January 18, 2008 between Atomstroyexport CJSC and the National Electric Company (NEC) of Bulgaria in the presence of the President of the RF Vladimir Putin and the President of Bulgaria Georgy Pyrvanov. The main merit of the “NPP-92” design, which won the bid, is the unique combination of active and passive safety systems. In 2007 the design got a EUR certificate, which confirms its conformance to all the European requirements.
Atomstroyexport is supplying facilities for treatment of liquid radioactive waste to NPP Kozloduy, performs servicing of systems and equipment of reactor plants, systems and equipment of turbine plants of the NPP power units/ CJSC ASE participates in bids for the performance of works on the modernization of Units 5 and6 held by NPP Kozloduy on the basis of approved investment programs, and also bids on decommissioning of Units 1- 4.
