On 4th June an Agreement between Natsionalna Electricheska Kompania (NEK EAD) of the Republic of Bulgaria and Pariba Bank, France, chosen as a structuring bank in financing of Belene NPP construction,

The further project financing will be provided in three stages. The target of the first stage is to search consultants for the exploratory design and to make a financial model. At the second stage a tender for financing arrangement shall be prepared. The third stage is aimed at development of documentation for financial report.
The task of Pariba Bank is to determine financial structures which will provide assets for Belene NPP construction. Next year it is intended to finalize discussions on loans with the leading organizations. NEK will be provided with a list of financial structures which shall submit the specific proposals including dates and terms of financing.
A strategic investor of the project is expected to be chosen in the near future. The negotiations between RWE company, Germany and Electrabel company, Belguim are coming to an end. Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania of Bulgaria shall make a decision which of the companies will have 49% of Belene NPP.

On 31st October, 2006 NEK EAD, Bulgaria officially announced Atomstroyexport JSC a successful tenderer for the construction of Belene NPP as per the Russian design «NPP-92» with two power units VVER-1000/В-466.
It was an important Atomstroyexport’s victory gained in the open international tender jointly with AREVA NP company and Siemens Concern.
The Contract Agreement between Atomstroyexport JSC and Natsionalna Electricheska Kompania of Bulgaria for the construction of Belene NPP was signed on 18th January, 2008 within the frame of the formal visit of Mr. V.V.Putin, President of Russia to Bulgaria.
The cost of the project amounts to 3.997 billion Euro for 2 Units of 1000 MW each.
