On April 23, 2008 during the visit of the President of Ukraine to Chernobyl NPP Igor Gramotkin, the Head of GSP “Chernobyl NPP”, has presented the Certificate of contract execution to Vitaly Dragunov, the representative of Atomstroyexport. The contract was signed in 2004 as a part of the SIP program (plan of measures implementation on the “Shelter” facility) financed by the assets of Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The Fund is administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Ukrainian enterprises Yuzhteploenergomontazh, Atomstroyenergoproject and Administration for Roven NPP construction are parts of the consortium. Igor Gramotkin highly estimated the work of the enterprises taking part in the project implementation: “The contract on performing stabilization measures has become the most successful project implemented at Chernobyl NPP owing the experience of project management of Atomstroyexport JSC, professionalism of the main contractor Yuzhteploenergomontazh, other enterprises and the work of hundreds of people – engineers, designers, construction and assembly workers”. The extraordinary complexity of this project was defined by the level of potential hazard of the strengthened facility “Shelter”, which is a lot higher than it is allowed by standards and regulations for facilities containing nuclear and radioactive materials. The Head of the “Stabilization” project on behalf of Chernobyl NPP Victor Khavrus said: “I can not say that the works carried out at the “Shelter” structures stabilization have never been performed anywhere in the world before. However I can claim that nowhere and at no time such works have been carried out at such a huge complex under such severe conditions. So it makes innovative and unique character of this project undisputed”. At the present time Atomstroyexport continues its works at Chernobyl NPP. The contract signed in January 2008 is now being implemented. It includes a range of works on safety improving of “Shelter project” – increase of roof load on outdoor assemble metal structures up to the specified rate of 80%, repair of lightweight roof and physical protection structures on access ways. This time the Ukrainian enterprise YUTEM-Engineering and design institute Atomenergostroyexport are parts of the Stabilization consortium with Atomstroyexport as the leader. On April 20, 2008 the consortium has successfully fulfilled the main stage of load transmission. Implementation of effective measures of production organization, original technologies and modern equipment has allowed fulfilling these works 1 month before the deadline provided by the contract. The works are performed in accordance with design solutions and the coordinated plan. The State Acceptance Commission schedules of takeover works under this contract on the end of 2008.
