Atomstroyexport JSC and European CARSIB Consortium, consisting of the firms AREVA и Siemens, have signed a Contract Agreement relating to cooperation under construction of Belene NPP in Bulgaria.

CARSIB Consortium performs the design of Instrumentation and Control Systems (I&CS) of NPP normal operation systems and units safety systems, supplies the equipment of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electric systems. Supply of refrigerating machines and additional equipment on securing the NPP safety, such as hydrogen recombiner, is also within the scope of CARSIB Consortium obligations. Atomstroyexport and AREVA cooperated successfully during modernization of power generating units of Bulgarian Kozloduy NPP. At present Atomstroyexport has started construction of NPP Belene with two power units with water-moderated water-cooled power reactors (VVER) with 1000MW power capacity. The customer is the National Electric Company of the Republic of Bulgaria. Commencement of Belene NPP commercial operation is planned accordingly on the years 2014 and 2015. Reference. In 2005 the tender for construction of Belene NPP was announced. It was won by the Russian company Atomstroyexport. On January 18th, 2008 signing of the Contract Agreement for Belene NPP construction took place in presence of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, between Atomstroyexport JSC and the National Electric Company of RB. The cost of the works under the contract makes nearby 4 billion Euros. Belene NPP is the Russian-European project in which Atomstroyexport participates together with the European consortium CARSIB (AREVA-Siemens). In 2007 the Russian design “AES-92" applied for Belene NPP was recognized complying all technical EUR requirements to the light water reactors of new generation. Certification of the design once more demonstrated a high level of reliability and safety of the future Belene NPP.
