Atomstroyexport as a leader of “Stabilization” consortium has commenced to execute physical activities within the “Shelter” object safety furthering” contract concluded on the 10th of January 2008 wit

In January – February 2008 the consortium performed a complex of preparatory mobilization measures including medical equipment and special theoretical training of personnel. According to the representative of Atomstroyexport at Chernobyl NPP V. Dragunov the Contractor’s availability to perform the works is confirmed by a document executed in accordance with the procedures adopted at Chernobyl NPP. The Ukrainian State committee for nuclear regulation issued an appropriate permission for work commencement. Also Atomstroyexport was granted a special permission on contract execution from the Administration of alienated area. The “Shelter” object safety furthering” project includes the repair of “Shelter” light roof, installation of physical protection at access paths and jacking of support beams adjusting reinforcement metalware load up to 80 %. Implementation of such works will increase safety of the “Shelter” object for the period of time required for construction of new and safe confinement above the block damaged by accident beyond the design basis in 1986. Reference The project is financed by "Shelter” international fund. European Bank of Reconstruction and Development is the fund manager. Atomstroyexport acts as a leader of “Stabilization” consortium which executes works on the “Shelter” object. The consortium also includes Ukrainian enterprises UTEM-Engineering and design institute Atomenergostroyproject. The contract has been awarded based on the results of the tender, which was carried out according to the EBRD rules and procedures. The tender was carried out with one bidder which shows high trust of the Ukrainian customer and Western consultants for the Russian company related to the successful completion of the project on stabilization of the “Shelter” object structural units at Chernobyl NPP.
