On April, 2009 signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place in Moscow between Joint-Stock Company "Atomstroyexport" (ASE) and Indian company Larsen & Toubro (L&T)

From ASE JSC the document was signed by Mr. Dan Belenkiy, President, from L&T – by Mr. Madhukar Kotwal, Senior Executive Vice-president. In the Memorandum the Parties defined the aspects of the planned co-operation concerning manufacturing of equipment for NPP under the Russian technologies, in particular for additional power units with VVER reactors at Kudankulam NPP. The first phase of Kudankulam NPP with the Russian VVER-1000 reactors under construction with technical assistance of ASE, is now at the advanced stage of completion. The Memorandum was concluded in view of the Agreement on construction of additional power units at Kudankulam NPP and co-operation in the construction of NPP at new sites, which was signed between Russia and India on December 5, 2008. The said Agreement has opened wide prospects both for the Russian and Indian industries. L&T has already experienced such co-operation, in particular, the company is actively participating in installation of the equipment for the first and second power units of Kudankulam NPP. According to the signed document ASE and L&T will develop co-operation in the construction of Kudankulam new power units, as well as during construction plants under the Russian designs with VVER reactors at new sites in India, and also in other countries. While signing of the Memorandum Mr. Dan Belenkiy, the President of "Atomstroyexport" has emphasized the importance of this event, being “the start of the extensive teamwork that in full measure enables both companies to show their potential at realization of new projects in the field of nuclear engineering”, and has also expressed confidence in the further development of co-operation between Joint-Stock Company "Atomstroyexport" and “Larsen & Toubro Ltd.”.
