Main Coolant Pipeline Welding has commenced at Kursk NPP-2 Unit No. 1

05.09.2022
One of the most important milestones of an NPP construction - welding of the mail coolant pipeline - has started at Kursk NPP-2 Unit No 1.
“The main circulation pipeline (its diameter being 850 mm, wall thickness being 70 mm, total length being over 140 meters) connects the main equipment of the primary circuit, such as the reactor, the steam generators and the main circulation pumps”, said Andrey Osharin, First Deputy Director for New Power Units Construction. This pipeline is designed to ensure circulation of the coolant, i.e. 350° C water under the 17.6 MPa pressure.
“It is in the focus of special attention, since the safety and efficiency of the power unit operation depends on quality of the MCP welded joints” said Oleg Shperle, Director for Kursk NPP Construction Project. - At the same time, the duration of the works keeps reducing thanks to improvement of works management and efficient use of RPS tools”.
Energospetsmontazh JSC specialists will have to assemble 250 tons of pipelines and metal structures, connect by manual welding 32 pipeline joints to the main equipment of the reactor plant.
Very stringent requirements are imposed on the MPC welded joints. As part of the welding works, specialists of the general contractor and the customer will conduct step-by-step supervision of all the operations performed, including visual, measuring, radiographic, penetration and ultrasonic tests.
