JSC “Atomstroyexport” participated in the International Symposium on Nuclear Energy in Jordan

In Amman (Jordan) at the Al-Balqa Applied University the Second International Symposium on Nuclear Energy ISNE-2009 was held. One of the principal goals of the symposium is to contribute to the development of the nuclear energy in Jordan and the Arab region in general. “Atomstroyexport” JSC sponsored the symposium. In the symposium took part representatives of region’s countries – Egypt, Syria, Iran, Algeria, Morocco, as well as of the leading countries with developed nuclear energy: Russia, France, South Korea.
In his opening speech Mr. Khaled Toukan, Chairman of Jordan Atomic Energy Commission JAEC confirmed his country’s plans related to the next future construction of a nuclear plant. One of the advanced technologies being studied by the JAEC today is the Russian VVER reactors.
In addition to NPP construction, the next plans of Jordan include uranium mining and developing of the significant infrastructure features of nuclear energy, first of all staff training and scientific applied research.
The Russian delegation reported on the experience of construction of the nuclear power facilities abroad, conditions and prospects of the research reactors fleet in Russia, and opportunities for training of foreign specialists in Russian institutes and NPP in operation as well.
Nowadays “Atomstroyexport” JSC is taking part in the tender of JAEC for construction of a nuclear research reactor in Jordan. The tender results are expected to be announced up to the end of 2009.
