Quadripartite Memorandum on Russian-Italian Cooperation has been signed

The Memorandum on Cooperation between Russian companies Atomstroyexport JSC, INTER RAO UES JSC and Italian companies ENI POWER S.p.A, FINMECCANICA S.p.A was signed on April 7, 2009.
Signing of this document has been caused by aspiration of Italian companies to augment their competences in the domain of nuclear power engineering and NPP construction technologies.
According to the Memorandum the companies plan to develop cooperation starting from exchange of experience and knowledge in the field of project management in the power engineering sphere, construction of NPP based on Russian design, carrying out of scientific research activities and development of technologies of new generation NPP.
In 2008 the Government of Italy approved the strategy for development of the national nuclear power engineering and achievement of 25% share in the total power output till 2030. This presumes construction of 8-10 power units of NPP, construction of the first ones out of which will start within five years to come. Italy is consuming even now 10% of NPP generated electric power that is imported by the country from European Union countries. At present the Government of Italy is considering a package of legislative acts and norms that stipulates development of national research centers, licensing of NPP designs and new construction sites.
The Memorandum demonstrates interest of the key players of the Italian power sector in development of solid and long-term cooperation with the leading Russian companies specializing in construction of NPP projects at foreign markets, including implementation of cooperation schemes with industrial and financial partners.
As per the signed document cooperation between Atomstroyexport JSC, INTER RAO UES JSC and Italian companies ENI POWER S.p.A, FINMECCANICA S.p.A shall cover the area of not only conventional power engineering, but also nuclear power engineering.

INTER RAO UES JSC is an electric power company which controls a number of generating and distributing energy assets in Russia and abroad. Total installed capacity of power plants being controlled by the company makes up about 20 000 MW. The company carries on an active investment business, it takes up dominating positions in Russia in the domain of electric power export – import.
