Atomstroyexport will continue working on the “Shelter” project at Chernobyl NPP

On January 26, 2009 Atomstroyexport received a notification from GSP «Chernobyl NPP” tender committee stating that the Russian-Ukrainian Consortium Shelter led by Atomstroyexport JSC was awarded a contract on constructing the fire protection system of Chernobyl NPP “Shelter” facility.
The contract is a part of the SIP program (plan of measures implementation on the “Shelter” facility) financed by the assets of Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The Fund is administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
This contract will provide for performing works on fire safety enhancement of the “Shelter” facility premises, localization of potentially fire-hazardous factors and creation of a state-of-the-art fire annunciation and fire fighting system.
The following works will be included in the Consortium’s scope of obligations:
- installation of the automatic fire alarm;
- installation of the automatic fire fighting system;
- installation of the ventilation system;
- installation of the fire barriers – firewalls, fire doors;
- dismantling works (dismantling of non-functioning air ducts, cable lines, removal of combustible materials);
- handling solid radioactive waste;
- pre-commissioning works;
- training of the Customer’s personnel.
Information. In 2008 the “Stabilization” project including unique works on reinforcement of civil structures of the “Shelter’ facility managed by Atomstroyexport JSC was successfully finished at Chernobyl NPP.
The leaders of the Project Management Group and foreign observers repeatedly pointed out Atomstroyexport’s high level of professionalism at performing the works at the facility. The works were completed with high personnel safety characteristics, at the proper quality level and in strict compliance with the schedule.
Mr. Vitaly Dragunov, the representative of Atomstroyexport JSC at the site, was awarded with the Badge of Honor by the order of the EMERCOM of Ukraine for the personal contribution to the successful implementation of stabilization measures.
