Consortium MIR-1200 is participating in the 10th Energy Congress in Prague

14.07.2010
International Consortium MIR-1200 comprising of ŠKODA JS a.s., JSC “Atomstroyexport” (JSC ASE) and JSC OKB “GIDROPRESS” is participating in the traditional Energy Congress in Prague. The Energy Congress is one of the most important events in the energy field of the Czech Republic having an international importance. This year the Congress is dedicated to the “Safety and Reliability of the Power Sector” and is held under the patronage of Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Jan Fischer. The Consortium led by ŠKODA JS a.s., participating in the tender for construction of “Temelin” NPP (the Czech Republic), Units 3, 4, is represented in the Energy Congress by the Project Manager of International Consortium MIR-1200, Roman Zdebor from ŠKODA JS a. s.
For construction of “Temelin” NPP, Units 3,4 International Consortium ŠKODA JS a.s., JSC “Atomstroyexport” and JSC OKB “GIDROPRESS” proposes MIR 1200 Project based on WWER-type light water reactors. As Roman Zdebor said, “the “unique combination of advanced active and passive control systems makes Project MIR-1200 one of the best representatives of the generation III +”. The experience of successful operation of Russian designed WWER reactors at nuclear power plants has already exceeded 1400 reactor years. The reliability of MIR-1200 design is based on the evolutionary technologies, such as optimized safety system configuration with active and passive elements on the diversity principles (four safety channels), digital Instrumentation, Control and emergency protection system, as well as higher fuel utilization factor.
According to Mr. Zdebor, Project MIR-1200 (Modernized International Reactor) “is an example of cooperation, which results from a long-term partnership of Czech, European and other international companies”. In the bid of the International Consortium special attention is paid to ensuring that at least 70% of deliveries of equipment, works and services will be localized in the Czech Republic. Yet within the framework of the qualification preparation, the Consortium has concluded preliminary agreements with more than 20 well-known Czech and European companies.
Information
On the 3-rd of August, 2009 CEZ announced a tender for completion of Units 3 and 4 of “Temelín” NPP, with the possible option for further three units in the European countries.
On the 14-th of October, 2009 a tripartite agreement on establishment of the International Consortium was concluded.
In November, 20, 2009 the Memorandum of Understanding between JSC “Atomstroyexport”, Czech and Slovak companies in the field of construction of Russian designed nuclear power plants with WWER-type reactors on the territory of Czechia, Russia and third countries was signed in Prague.
MIR Project completely meets European regulations and standards. The construction management allows to fix the operation period at the NPP construction site – 54 months from the first concrete to the commissioning of the plant. The life-cycle of the reactor is up to 60 years with the possibility of extension, with the overhaul to be carried out once in 8-10 years. Nuclear power plants equipped with the base type of the reactor facility for MIR-1200 Project have been built in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary and in other European countries.
Consortium Members:
ŠKODA JS a.s. – is one of the leading engineering and production companies with worldwide experience in construction and service of nuclear power plants. Škoda Company was established in 1859, the origin of its activities in the nuclear power industry dates back to 1956. Throughout the period of its existence the Company has carried out engineering, delivered equipment and rendered services for nuclear power plants, research reactors and spent fuel storage facilities in the Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, France, Germany, USA and in the Far East. Up to the present day ŠKODA JS a. s. has produced and supplied 21 complete WWER-440-type nuclear reactors and 3 reactors of WWER-1000 type. ŠKODA JS a. s. represents a fine example of an efficiently-run Czech company existing in the power sector. In spite of the economic crisis marked with the growth of unemployment, the employment at ŠKODA JS a. s. increased almost by 20% in 2009 and ran up to 1 000 persons, among which 34% have higher education, 39% have vocational secondary education.
JSC “Atomstroyexport” is a leading Russian engineering company of State Corporation “Rosatom” on construction of nuclear power facilities abroad. At present, “Atomstroyexport” is the Company implementing construction contracts, including “turn- key” ones, for five nuclear power units abroad simultaneously, and, besides, the only enterprise of such profile possessing NPP reference units of new generation (Tianwan NPP in China). JSC ASE rests upon а semicentennial experience of the Russian nuclear power industry, state-of-art management and innovation technologies that gives an opportunity to the Company to implement equally large-scale and unique projects charged to it in the framework of bilateral intergovernmental agreements, as well as a result of triumph in open international biddings.
OKB “GIDROPRESS” is a leading Russian Company of State Corporation “Rosatom” on development of reactor facilities for the NPP of different purposes, having the characteristics of increased safety, reliability and profitability competitive in the Russian Federation and abroad. The enterprise has more than sixty-year-experience in design, design-theoretical, experimental and research and in production works. The main area of activity of OKB “GIDROPRESS” is development of reactor facility designs of WWER-type with high power range: from 300 to 1700 MWt. At present time OKB “GIDROPRESS” is the only company in the world according to the designs of which the reactor facilities of six power units with reactor facilities of WWER-1000 and WWER-1200 types are being constructed in Russia simultaneously, as well as of five power units with WWER-1000 reactor facility beyond the territory of the country (NPP “Kudankulam” in India, NPP “Bushehr” in Iran, NPP “Belene” in Bulgaria). WWER reactor facilities developed according to the designs of OKB “GIDROPRESS” are operating at 18 nuclear power plants of Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Finland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia and China. These are 23 WWER-440 power units with the overall power of 10120 megawatt and 28 WWER-1000 power units with overall power of 28000 megawatt. At present the works on extension of the lifetime period for the reactor facility equipment of the first generations, the designs of which had been also developed in OKB “GIDROPRESS”, are in progress.
