MIR.1200 International Consortium participates in "MSV-2010" International Machine building exhibition

24.09.2010
On September 13-17 “MIR. 1200” International Consortium made up of SKODA JS a.s., “Atomstroyexport” JSC (ASE JSC), and “Gidropress” JSC OKB is taking part in the traditional “MSV-2010” International exhibition which is held in Brno, Czech Republic. “MSV” – is one of the largest exhibitions in Europe which annually brings together the leading companies in the machine building industry from all over the world.
“MIR. 1200” International Consortium is currently participating in the bidding process for “Temelin” 3, 4 NPP construction. It is the construction of the second phase of Czech nuclear power plant – by the decision of MSV-2010 organizers – that became the main subject of the “Completion of “Temelin” NPP – chance for Czech industry” conference which was held within the scope of the exhibition.
On behalf of “MIR. 1200” International Consortium Miroslav Fiala, Board Chairman and CEO of SKODA JS a.s., Consortium leader company, spoke at the conference. His report is devoted to the new opportunities that Consortium’s joint proposal will provide to Czech entrepreneurs if Consortium takes part in the construction of “Temelin” NPP. In the tender specification a special priority is given to the guarantee to localize 70% of equipment supplies, works and services at Czech facilities. This proposal is real since it is built upon the similar cooperation pattern between Czech Republic and Russia in the area of nuclear power projects. As part of this cooperation two operating NPPs in Czech Republic – “Dukovani” and the first phase of “Temelin” have been constructed. Crucial part of the equipment supplies, works and services was brought from Czech Republic. This cooperation pattern provides the basis for “MIR. 1200” project today.
“MIR. 1200” Project represents the proven cooperation pattern of the highest rank, Miroslav Fiala believes. – It is based upon the long-term cooperation of Czech, Russian, European and international companies which are the leading ones in their technological segments. This project is the continuation of the long-term experience of construction and operation of Czech and Slovak nuclear power industry. The project will ensure a further development of knowledge, production and human resources for the wide range of Czech Republic’s industry branches. “MIR. 1200” Consortium will offer Czech companies the key share of works at the completion of “Temelin” NPP along with the real participation in projects in the third countries. At the same time Consortium is ready to take part in the improvement of Czech technical education system and support the training of a sufficient number of young professionals by the educational institutions of the country for the forthcoming Renaissance of Czech Republic’s nuclear power industry.

The bidding process for the construction completion of “Temelin” NPP 3, 4 units with the possible option for three more units in European countries was announced on August 3, 2009. On October 14 2009 the tripartite agreement was made on establishment of the International Consortium comprised of SKODA JS a.s., “Atomstroyexport” JSC and “Gidropress” JSC OKB. On November 20, 2009 in Prague the Memorandum of understanding between “Atomstroyexport” JSC, Czech and Slovak companies in the area of nuclear power plant construction of Russian design with the VVER type reactors in the territory of Czech Republic, Russia and the third countries was signed.
On April 29, 2010 “MIR. 1200” International Consortium passed some pre-bidding materials on the construction of “Temelin” NPP 3, 4 units over to CEZ Czech customer. The materials passed contain the list of engineering solutions on the project, as well as the information on supply volume, commercial and organizational issues. The Consortium on a staged basis prepared and gave to the customer some answers to the additional questions received in the course of the pre-bidding negotiations.
The Consortium suggests the European “MIR.1200” project on the basis of the technologies of the VVER type light water reactors. The experience of successful NPP operation with the WWER nowadays exceeds 1400 reactor-years. Nuclear power plants with the VVER type reactors built in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary and other European countries are safe and economically effective. “MIR.1200” project meets the requirements of the customer, possesses the reference of technologies, basic equipment and fuel. It satisfies the international norms and recommendations of IAEA, features the enhanced safety characteristics and cost-performance ratios. In Russia similar NPP units are already being built on sites of Leningradskaya NPP-2, Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 and Baltic NPP.
Currently the international team of “MIR. 1200” Consortium is doing intensive work on the particular chapters of the joint proposal. Groups of professionals are working on the specifications of all aspects of the international project, based on a rich experience of a NPP construction, summarizing the knowledge gained when constructing the referent nuclear plants in China (Tianwan NPP) and in Leningrad oblast (Leningradskaya NPP-2). The next consulting meeting with the customer – CEZ company is expected In the near future.
ŠKODA JS a.s. – today's ŠKODA JS company is engaged in engineering, equipment manufacturing and service for nuclear power industry for more than fifty years. ŠKODA was founded in 1859, the beginning of its work in nuclear power industry goes back to 1956. ŠKODA JS provided delivery of engineering, the equipment and service for the NPP, scientific reactors and storehouses of the used fuel in Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, France, Germany, USA and in the Far East. By today ŠKODA JS has made and delivered 21 VVER-440 type complete reactors and three VVER-1000 type reactors. In 1993 the company was privatized and ŠKODA JADERNÉ STROJíRENSTVÍ was created, in 1998-1999 the present ŠKODA JS а.s joint-stock company started. From 2004 company belongs to Russian machine-building OMZ group. The number of company’s employees has grown by 17% - almost up to 1,000 people despite the global financial crisis.
“Atomstryexport” JSC is the leading engineering company of “Rosatom” government corporation on construction of the nuclear power sites abroad. At present “Atomstroyexport” is the company performing contracts on construction - including the ones on a turn-key basis – of five nuclear power units simultaneously abroad and, in addition to that, is the only enterprise of such a type possessing the reference NPP units of a new generation (Tianwan NPP in China). ASE JSC bases itself upon half a century experience of Russian nuclear power industry, modern management and innovative technologies that allows the company to equally implement large-scale and unique projects commissioned to it within the scope of the bipartite inter-governmental agreements, as well as resulted from the wins in the open international biddings.
«Gidropress» OKB is the leading company of “Rosatom” government corporation on construction of the reactor plants for NPP of various purposes possessing properties of enhanced safety, reliability and profitability, competitive in the Russian Federation and abroad. The enterprise has more than sixty years' experience of the engineering, design-theoretical, experimental-research and production works. The main area of the “Gidropress” OKB business activity is development of projects of the VVER type reactor plants of a wide range of capacity: from 300 up to 1700 МW. Now the company is the only one in the world under which projects the reactor plants of six power units simultaneously are constructed in Russia with VVER-1000 and VVER-120 type reactor plants, as well as five power units with VVER-1000 type reactor plant outside the home country: “Kudankulam” NPP in India, “Bushehr” NPP in Iran, “Belene” NPP in Bulgaria. VVER reactor plants built under OKB “Gidropress” projects operate at 18 nuclear plants in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Finland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and China. These are 23 VVER-440 power units with overall capacity of 10120 megawatt and VVER-1000 28 power units with overall capacity of 28000 megawatt. Works on extension of the equipment’s service life of the reactor plants of the first generations, which projects were also executed by “Gidropress” OKB are being carried on.
