The First Meeting of the Kursk NPP-2 Construction Project Management Board Takes Place

On November 22 nd , 2012 the management board of the Kursk NPP-2 construction project held their first meeting in Kurchatov, Kursk region.
Managers of JSC Nizhny Novgorod engineering company “Atomenergoproekt” (JSC NIAEP), group company “Rosenergoatom”, Directorate of Kursk NPP, JSC “Atomenergoproekt” (Moscow), representatives of executive and legislative bodies of Kursk region and stakeholders attended the meeting.
Before the meeting the members of the management board viewed one of the proposed construction sites for Kursk NPP-2, construction facilities and layout of the infrastructure facilities. At the meeting the following issues were considered: the milestones in Kursk NPP-2 design and construction, top priority site development works and provision of basic and detailed design documentation and also progress of survey and investigations for the site selection.
JSC NIAEP is to be the prime designer and contractor in the Kursk NPP-2 project. At the meeting Valery Limarenko, president of JSC NIAEP, managing body ASE, announced that Igor Kruuz, director of construction in the company, has been appointed head of the Kursk NPP-2 construction. The Kursk region will house a NIAEP branch with its first employees commencing their work in Kurchatov in January 2013.
“All of us want to start works here as soon as possible”, underlined Valery Limarenko, Under these circumstances we will try to obtain the license as soon as possible and at the same time we will be doing construction site development works”.
The top priority list of Kursk NPP-2 site development facilities includes about 80 structures for construction, infrastructural and social purposes. They include road bridges and railway bridges with access roads, the first phase of residential development in Kurchatov for builders, production premises for construction companies and organizations carrying out electric installation and piping work. It is planned to use material and human resources available in the region as much as possible during preparation for construction and construction itself.
Alexander Zoubarev, first deputy governor of Kursk region, declared that the regional authorities are ready to make every possible contribution to this project.
For reference : Kursk NPP-2 two first power units are planned to be built after Kursk NPP-1,2 are decommissioned. Kursk-2 unit N 1 construction completion is scheduled for the year 2020, Kursk-2 unit N 2 – for the year 2022.
This nuclear project will be based on the VVER TOI project (typical, optimized and informatized project of a high –capacity VVER-technology nuclear plant). The following participants are engaged in development of the VVER TOI project: group company Rosenergoatom, Design Office of Rosenergoatom, JSC Atomenergoproekt (prime designer in the VVER TOI project), JSC NIAEP, OKB Gidropress, Kurchatov Research Institute, ALSTOM Atomenergomash and VNIIAES.
Group company Rosenergoatom is the owner and technical customer of Kursk-2. JSC NIAEP is Prime Designer and Contractor in the Kursk NPP-2 project.

The merged company JSC NIAEP – JSC Atomstroyexport (ASE) was established in March 2012 by the resolution of the State atomic energy corporation Rosatom. Thus, NIAEP has become a holding company JSC ASE.
