The Rostov NPP: the South African delegation visited Unit 3&4

The visit was held on 25th October as per the Memorandum on mutual understanding between JSC Rusatom Overseas and Nuclear Energy Corporation of the South African Republic (NECSA), which was signed on June 2012.
The visit purpose of the units being built is familiarity with JSC NAIEP-JSC ASE( General Contractor of the Rostov NPP construction) innovative developments, particularly with systems of unified information space for facilities design and construction.
The delegation participants – representatives of Trade and Investment Ministry, Nuclear Industry Association and specialists of lead nuclear complex companies of the SAR – viewed Unit 3&4 construction sites. They visited Unit 3 reactor and turbine compartments, a pre-assembly site, a training centre with visual modeling studio, learnt on a bar-coding system.
In the words of Alexander Hazin, Construction Director-Director of JSC NIAEP –JSC ASE branch in Volgodonsk, the guests showed great interest to the implemented projects.
According to the delegation participants, the SAR has huge demands for energy and that is why it is planning to develop nuclear energy and expand its share in the country energy mix. That is why the SAR is so interested in Russian advanced developments in the sphere of nuclear power plants construction.

JSC NIZHNY NOVGOROD ENGINEERING COMPANY (JSC NIAEP), www.niaep.ru, is an enterprise of the State atomic energy corporation – Rosatom. The company is using advanced software products for nuclear power plant engineering. Since 2002 a 3-D model has been applied in NPP engineering. A quality management system was introduced in the company complying with the requirements of the international standards. It was successfully certified in the TUV SUD international center.


Rostov NPP is a branch of JCS Concern Rosenergoatom. The plant is located on the bank of Tsimlyansk water basin at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. Two power units with reactor type VVER-1000 of installed capacity 1000 MW, are in operation; power unit N 1 was commissioned in 2001, unit N 2 – in December 2010. Units N 3&4 are under construction. Nizhny Novgorod engineering company “Atomenergoproekt” (NIAEP, www.niaep.ru) is the general contractor. The company is part of State atomic energy corporation “Rosatom”.
