UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2: power unit 1 is connected to the Russian grid

18.11.2013
On 15th November, 2013, an important step: synchronization with the grid has taken place during commissioning of the first power unit.
“Synchronization with the grid showed that all the systems of the first power unit are operable and pre-commissioning of equipment is well done. The power unit has risen to pilot load of 60 MW. The generating equipment is registered in Rostechnadzor and in the Regional dispatching office, said Pavel Khudyakov, deputy director of production of UzhnoUralks branch of JSC NIAEP – JSC ASE. Preparation for complex trial operation is underway 24 hours a day. The next step is steam blowdown of the boiler plant under load of 100 MW, dynamic tests of the combined cycle plant with guaranteed rise to power of 420 MW. Complex tests of the first power unit are planned to be completed in November 2013.
Preparing the first power unit of UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2 for handover the merged company NIAEP-ASE – leader in engineering and construction of nuclear power plants – confidently demonstrates its competences in construction of thermal power generation plants.
In 2009 JSC ASE won the open tender and was awarded a general contract on construction of the first power unit of UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2. On 16th October 2009 JSC ASE and JSC “Third generating company of the wholesale electricity market” signed an EPC-contract on construction of the UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2 power complex. UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2 is a condensation combined cycle power plant consisting of three units of total capacity 1200 MW (400 MW per unit) with auxiliary structures and service lines. The plant is being constructed within 5 km from the operating UzhnoUralskaya GRES site.
In February 2012 JSC ASE won the contract on construction of the second and the third units of UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2. The comprehensive general contract on construction of units 2 and 3 of UzhnoUralskaya GRES-2 was signed on 14th May 2012 by the management of NIAEP-ASE and JSC Inter RAO UES.
