Kudankulam NPP Power Unit No. 1 in Warranty Period Operation till End of 2015

31.12.2014
Together with Indian partners we have gone a long and fruitful way of cooperation at the first power unit of the plant. The warranty period operation speaks, firstly, of successful completion of all the necessary activities and tests at the unit and, secondly, of complete trust of the Indian partners in Russian nuclear technologies. Billons of kWh have been generated and evacuated into the grid of India and it is difficult to overestimate its future contribution into stable and reliable power supply for the country, said president of the merged company Valery Limarenko.
“Our company has built and delivered for the warranty period operation the safest nuclear power unit among those operating today in the world. The Kudankulam NPP project represents a harmonic combination of traditional active and newly designed and implemented passive safety systems. A number of systems complying with the post –Fukusima IAEA requirements have been implemented at the plant. It’s wonderful that transition to the warranty period of operation allowed the Indian colleagues to bring the unit into commercial operation. I’m sure that in future the nuclear plant will prove to be a reliable generation facility with stable supply of power to consumers of the country”, said vice-president of the merged company Andrey Lebedev.
Today the first power unit of Kudankulam NPP has the highest capacity among the power plants in India.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India limited is the customer of the project and the operator of the plant. The merged company NIAEP – Atomstroyexport implements the agreement on construction of power units 1 and 2 with VVER-1000 reactors of 1000 MW capacity each on behalf of the Russian party, and NPCIL – on behalf of the Indian Party.
Kudankulam NPP is based on the AES-92 project which fully meets the requirements of the modern technical and regulatory documents of Russia, IAEA and is certified for compliance with the EUR requirements.
