Rostov NPP Power Unit No. 3 Connected to United Energy System of Russia

27.12.2014
On December 27th, 2014, power unit No. 3 of Rostov NPP was connected to the grid (the united energy system of Russia). At 00:24 Moscow time the electric power generated by the turbogenerator of the plant started coming into the grid of the country. So the first part of the approved Program for power start-up and low power testing was successfully completed.
At this stage of the technological process the program includes: testing and tryout of the NPP operating conditions; check of the safety systems to the extent required for ensuring safe reactor power rise to the nominal capacity level, including tryout of safe and stable operation through transient conditions at all the low power test stages.
The next step is to reach 50% power level from 35% level. Power unit No. 3 will be handed over for commercial operation approximately in July 2015 after the unit reaches 100% power and commissioning trials are carried out.
The commissioning program of Rostov NPP power unit No. 3 was commenced on November 14th, 2014, when the first fuel assembly was placed into the reactor, kicking off the criticality program of the reactor (all the assemblies, 163 all in all, were loaded on November 19th). On December 7th the reactor reached the minimum controllable power level.
Today power units1 and 2 of Rostov NPP meet the demand according to the dispatch load curve. The radiation background at Rostov NPP and neighboring areas is at the level corresponding to the normal operating conditions of the plant and does not exceed the natural background values.
