At Belorussian NPP power unit No. 1 the first tier of the RB inner containment dome of the first power unit has been concreted from level -1.250 (1m 25 cm below the sea level) up to +6.750 (6 m 75 cm above the sea level).
The height of the tier concreted is 8 meters, the volume of the concrete placed is about 1500 cubic meters. OOO Trest ROSSEM is carrying out the construction works.
According to Director of Belorussian NPP construction – Director of NIAEP office in the Republic of Belarus, Yury Pustovoy, the concreted first tier of the inner containment dome is an important stage of the year 2014, its completion allows us to proceed with erection of the next tiers of the dome. It is planned to start this work in the nearest future.
The inner containment of the reactor building with a dome at the top is one of the key elements of the confinement and protection system. The double containment of the reactor building prevents release of radioactivity into the environment and serves as a physical protection against natural and man-made external impacts including earthquakes, storms and aircraft crash.
