Development of Russian medium capacity nuclear plant projects discussed in JSC NIAEP

30.07.2014
JSC NIAEP and designers of VVER-600 and VBER-600 reactor plants organized a conference which was attended by suppliers of long-lead equipment and which became one of the first real steps on the road to development of Russian projects of medium capacity nuclear plants .
The conference was attended by management and employees from the following companies: JSC “NIAEP”, Design Office of Rosenergoatom, JSC “OKB Gidropress”, JSC “OKBM Afrikantov”, JSC “Atomenergomash”, JSC “AEM-technologies”, JSC “Izhorskiye Zavody”, JSC “ZiO-Podolsk”, JSC “CKBM”, JSC “CNIITMASH”, JSC “VNIIAES”, FSUE “FSPC NIIIS”, JSC “TECON-ENGINEERING”, JSC “NIKIET”, “Systemotekhnika-NN”, and also from Hungarian companies “GANS Engineering” and “GEA Heat Exchangers” and leading Russian companies – potential suppliers of long-lead equipment for medium-size power plants.
In the course of the round table discussion JSC NIAEP as the General designer stated the key technical and economic requirements for medium-size plants with VVER-600 and VBER-600 reactors and also for the equipment applied.
Potential manufacturers spoke of their participation in the medium-size plant projects. In particular, it was discussed whether it would be possible to supply the reactor plant as a package and to use pumps of “GANS Engineering” in the cooling systems and in the service water supply systems considering the operation parameters of the systems submitted. GEA Heat Exchangers made a presentation “Application of Heller dry cooling towers combined with peak evaporative cooling towers for cooling systems of main equipment at VVER-600 and VBER-600 power plant” .
Propositions of all the participants of the conference were included into a memorandum which would be sent to the Design office of the group company Rosenergoatom.
For reference: According to the IAEA classification the medium-size nuclear plants include nuclear power plants of installed capacity from 300 to 700 MW.
The medium-size nuclear plants could be used in the following areas:
in areas where it is impossible or difficult to use conventional organic sources of power , and there are no transmission lines or there are limitations set on the capacity of generating facilities;
