Welding of the main circulating pipeline of unit No. 4 of the Rostov NPP has been completed in a recording short time.

06.06.2016
Mountingof the main circulating pipeline (MCP) started on February 27, and completed on June 2. In 96 days specialists have welded all 28 MCP joints, and carried out the heat treatment of welded seams to restore the structure of metal following completion of welding.
When performing these operations, the welders were guided by the benchmarks achieved at the power unit under construction of the Leningrad NPP-2, where the MCP has been mounted in 113 days.
Fulfilment of this sophisticated operation in the recording short term became possible thanks to the excellent job organization, and step-by-step control of all operations. "Supervision of assembly & welding operations of systems of the power unit under construction is being carried out all the rime”, said Mr. Alexey Fedotov, deputy director for capital construction of the Rostov NPP. “When mounting MCP, experts of departments of technical control and non-destructive metal examination, technical supervision of capital construction, and engineers representing the Customer attentively controlled such process-related milestones, as preparedness of structures and equipment for welding, strict compliance with the welding technology; they participated in the visual inspection, dimensional checks, elimination of non-compliances", added the senior manager.
The main circulating pipeline, with a diameter of 850 mm, wall thickness of 70 mm, and total length exceeding 130 meters, connects the main equipment, including the reactor vessel, steam generators, and main circulating pumps. MCP is intended for circulation of the cooling water with a temperature of 350 degrees Celsius, and pressure of 17,6 MPas. "Completion of MCP welding is followed by the milestone involving the flushing of the non-covered reactor which is scheduled in December of the current year", stated Mr.Vitaly Medyakov, the JSC NIAEP vice-president for projects in Russia (JSC NIAEP is part of ASE Group of companies).
Commercial operation of the power unit No. 4 of the Rostov NPP is scheduled to start in 2017.
