Belarusian NPP Unit 1 has seen its outer containment dome fully poured.

03.07.2018

Concrete has been fully poured for the outer containment dome (OC dome) of Belarusian NPP Unit 1 (Rosatom State Corporation’s Engineering Division ASE acting as General Designer and General Contractor for the Project Construction).

‘OC concreting brings the construction and installation works at the reactor building to a close and allows the team to commence full-scale installation, balancing and commissioning works for the reactor plant equipment and systems,’ notes Mr Sergey Olontsev, Senior Vice President for Russian Projects Management, EC ASE, JSC.

All in all there has been placed 1500 cubic meters of concrete for the reactor building dome portion. The quality of concrete was being monitored throughout the entire performance time.

According to the Belarusian NPP design, the reactor building will have two containments, the inner and the outer one. The inner containment is a component of the passive safety system that prevents the leakage of radioactive substances into the environment in the event of hypothetical accidents.

The outer containment jointly with the inner containment serves as a physical protection against natural and man-caused external impacts, including earthquakes and hurricanes.

The Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors having a total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed under the Russian design in Ostrovets (Republic of Belarus). To construct the first NPP in Belarus, it has been decided to rely on the Russian 3+ generation design that is fully compliant with the international standards and IAEA safety recommendations.
