The volunteers of the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division have taken part in restoration of a wooden church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Margusha, Nizhny Novgorod Region.

As part of the “Let's Preserve the Holy Sites” volunteer project implemented in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, ASE JSC Project Office for Corporate Culture and Commitment (being part of the Rosatom Engineering Division) provides assistance once again in the restoration and improvement of the destroyed churches in the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolia.

The volunteers team has been led by Priest Andrey Bandin, the head of the youth department of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. The volunteers have cleaned the church front from the old paint, coated it with primer and paint, and cleaned-up the surrounding area. The event was attended by local villagers.

For reference:

The Church of the Icon of Kazan located in the village of Margusha of the Dalnee Konstantinovo District in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, was built in 1855. In addition to the main one, it had two more sanctuaries: the one in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the other in honor of Hermogenes, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. Enclosed with a wooden fence, the church building itself was made of wood, too, and included an altar, a room for offering prayers and a bell tower. The church was closed and destroyed in 1936. Later, it housed a community centre, and after its closure, the church was in disrepair. Year 2020 saw the beginning of the church restoration.
