On May 21, volunteers fr om Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division will take part in All-Russia Volga Day and the eco-festival which will be held on the Volga embankment in Nizhny Novgorod.
In the course of the campaign, the volunteers will clean of the bank of the river, other events include the work of interactive playgrounds and areas for children and young people wh ere everybody will be able to learn in detail about the influence of pollution on water reservoirs and study the rules of waste sorting. An entertainment program is planned for all the participants of the Volga Day - a photo booth, live music, quiz games, prize awards, food-zone and master-classes. The informal part will be followed by a concert with the participation of popular musical bands and prize awards to the most active volunteers.
“The Volga River is one of the largest natural treasures not only in Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Region but in the whole Russia. The river has a tremendous spiritual, environmental and economic importance. The well-being of millions of people depends on it. That is why national project “Ecology” contains a separate federal program dedicated to the Volga River. Nizhny Novgorod region is one of the leaders in terms of the scope of its implementation. It is important that the undertaken measures should be maximally effective and should help us preserve the great river”, said Gleb Nikitin, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
“Nizhny Novgorod is rightly considered one of the leaders in the number of nuclear facilities that make a significant contribution into the development of the city and its socially important projects. Maintenance and facilitation of sustainable development of territories and preservation of ecological systems is one of the priorities of the Engineering Division and Rosatom in general”, pointed out Nikolay Podorov, Senior Vice President for Corporate Functions of ASE JSC (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) talking about the importance of participation of volunteers in the event.
“The Volga River is the heart of the European part of Russia, its most important water artery”. About one third of the population of Russia live along its banks, its basin embraces 39 federative units from Perm region in the North to Astrakhan region in the South. The importance of the Volga River cannot be overestimated. Its well-being is significant not only for the health of millions of people but also for the most important economic sectors including agriculture, power engineering, housing and public utilities. That is why it is so important to keep the river clean. We want the Volga Day to become a popular event, that is why plenty of subbotniks (days of volunteer unpaid work) will be timed to this day. The central areas of the event will be Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Kazan and Volgograd. Anyone can join this campaign and the planned 13 thousand cleaning events in this year”, said Ilya Razbash, Director of Center of Development of Water Industry Complex.
The tradition to celebrate the Volga Day originated in Nizhny Novgorod. For two years, the campaign has been organized by Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “National Priorities” with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of RF and volunteer action “Water of Russia”. In 2022, volunteers from the largest cities of the Volga Region - Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Samara and Volgograd - wished to be participants of the event.
The Volga Dar will start in Nizhny Novgorod at 11-00 at Sibirskaya street bldg. 3 (Solyanaya Birzha restaurant). Denis Egorov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Region will address the participants with a welcome speech.
Along with Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division, the All-Russia Volga Day campaign in Nizhny Novgorod was supported by a network of Atomic Energy Information Centers and Volga Shipping Company JSC.
