Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division, jointly with partners from Professionalism federal project, has determined the conditions of on-the-job training for the project participants. At the meeting with representatives of Kursk Mounting Technical School (KMTS), Education and Science Committee of Kursk region and Rosatom Corporate Academy, a decision was made that KMTS students, who chose training within the framework of Professionalism project, will have on-the-job training at the site of Kursk NPP-2 in 2023.

Professionalism federal project started in 2022. Based on the results of pre-qualification, 70 colleges were entitled to set up education and industrial clusters in 42 regions of Russia. 252 leading Russian employers, including Rosatom, Russian Railways, Severstal and SIBUR, act as their partners. Key principles of the project are maximum focus on practice and reduction of the training period. Kursk Mounting Technical School, having a long story of cooperation with the nuclear industry, became one of the 70 winners of pre-qualification.

160 students of KMTS will have on-the-job training at Kursk NPP-2. Practical training is foreseen in four areas: “Construction and operation of buildings and structures”, “Manual and mechanized welder”, “Foreman of construction finishing and ornamental works” and “Civil works foreman”. Duration of on-the-job training will depend on the area of training and last 2.5-3 months. Depending on tasks, some trainees will have on-the-job training at the production facility, while others - at the construction site. Upon the occupational safety briefing and theoretical training, the trainees will proceed to practical training supervised by mentors from subsidiary construction companies of the Engineering Division. One mentor will teach 3-4 students. Trainees will be assigned to a particular tram based on the subject of their on-the-job training and the set of operations that shall be practiced. It is planned that the students’ practice will be paid for.

“Rosatom supports federal programs for the development of mentoring system and creation of a professional team from student days. Even before the establishment of Professionalism project, we cared for training of our future employees, cooperating with higher and secondary vocational education institutions, so now we have eagerly supported the state program. Our mentors, who know the industry specifics, will be able to train future workers for nuclear construction most efficiently, create their team spirit and cultivate love for the profession chosen”, noted Oleg Shperle, ASE JSC Vice President - Director of Kursk NPP construction project.

The first education and industrial center of Rosatom within the framework of Professionalism federal project implementation was opened in Kursk region on April 25, 2022. Its core is Kursk Mounting Technical School, students of which will master educational programs in the field of nuclear power plants construction. The purpose of partnership is building an efficient practice-oriented training model, enhancement of education quality and training specialists being in demand on the labor market within a shorter period. The State Corporation takes part in arrangement and optimization of the training process, invests in upgrading of material and technical equipment of Kursk Mounting Technical School and will ensure employment for graduates in its companies in the region. A separate area will be monitoring the efficiency of a new training model and expert review of educational programs.
