Belarus NPP is the first nuclear power plant in the history of the country. The NPP construction is performed in accordance with Intergovernmental Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation concluded in March 2011.

The typical Russian design of the new generation III+ was selected for the first NPP in Belarus. The Project envisages the construction of a two-unit NPP with VVER-1200 reactors with the total power 2400 MW.

Power start-up of Unit 1 of Belarus NPP was held in November 2020 when the Unit was connected to the power grid of the country. On 10 June 2021, power Unit 1 of Belarus NPP was taken over for commercial operation.

On December 22, 2021, nuclear fuel loading in Unit 2 commenced.
