Implementation of Belene NPP Project in Bulgaria

November 5, 2008, final negotiations between the management of Atomstroyexport JSC and the National Electric Company of the Bulgarian Republic (NEC) on production, financing and supplies of long-cycle equipment, including reactor vessels, steam generator, turbine and generator were held in Sofia. The negotiations resulted in subscription of Addendum 5 to the Agreement on Belene NPP (November 29, 2006), according to which Atomstroyexport undertakes obligations to produce and deliver this equipment. On the part of Bulgaria Addendum 5 was signed by Lubomil Velkov, Executive Manager of NEC, and Mardik Papazyan, Executive Manager of NEC. On the part of Russia the Amendment was signed by Leonid Reznikov, President of Atomstroyexport, JSC. Subscription of Amendment 5 is another important step towards implementation of Belene NPP Project. Information In 2005 the tender for construction of Belene NPP was invited. It was won by the Russian company Atomstroyexport. On January 18th, 2008 signing of the Contract Agreement for Belene NPP construction took place in presence of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, between Atomstroyexport JSC and the National Electric Company. The cost of the works under the contract makes nearby 4 billion Euros. Belene NPP is the Russian-European project in which Atomstroyexport participates together with the German consortium CARSIB (AREVA-Siemens). In 2007 the Russian design “AES-92" applied for Belene NPP was recognized complying all technical EUR requirements to the light water reactors of new generation. Certification of the design once more demonstrated a high level of reliability and safety of the future Belene NPP.
