The head of Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, visited Kudankulam NPP site on November, 19th, 2008 constructed under the Russian design in Tamil Nadu state in the south of India.

Sergey Kirienko was accompanied by the head of Joint-Stock Company "Atomstroyexport", Dan Belenkiy. Sergey Kirienko, Dan Belenkiy and the head of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, S.K. Jain, looked round the ready facilities of the NPP auxiliary infrastructure: fresh nuclear fuel storage, seawater desalination plant, chemical water treatment shop, complex switchgear for power output from the first power unit and others. The head of Rosatom noted the strategic character of the cooperation of Russia and India, having emphasized, that the construction of Kudankulam NPP is the important direction of the activity in the relations of two countries. At the meeting the project manager from the Indian side, K.C. Purohit, and the head of Joint-Stock Company "Atomstroyexport", Dan Belenkiy, presented the reports on the construction progress. By the results of the discussion the sides have agreed to update the time schedule of the construction of the power units, approved in March, 2007. Information. The construction of Kudankulam NPP is carried out according to the Soviet-Indian Intergovernmental Agreement signed in 1988. The original design includes two power units for the plant, each of 1000 MW capacity. In the beginning of this year the sides initialed the Agreement on construction of four more power units on Kudankulam site and cooperation in realization in India of other projects in the field of civil nuclear power. The official starting point in the time schedule of the construction of the plant, carried out by company "Atomstroyexport", became March, 2002, when the ceremony of the first concrete for the NPP reactor building foundation took place. Currently over 100 Russian engineers and other experts are working on the site.
