Bulgaria is one of the key business partners of Russia. As many as 100 organizations from 15 Russian regions presented the most promising directions of the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation at the exhibition.
On October 8, 2008 the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Sergei Stanishev and the Vice Prime Minister of Russia and Head of Presidents Office Sergey Sobyanin officially inaugurated the exhibition. A representative of the Russian delegation read out the welcoming address of the Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin.
Atomstoryexport presented video and information materials on different directions of its activity abroad, its projects under realization, its capacities and practical experience. Special attention was paid to the most important project of the Russian-Bulgarian strategic cooperation – the construction of Belene Nuclear Power Plant. This project is the most important economic event in the Russian-Bulgarian relations for the moment.
After the ceremony of the opening of the Russian national Exhibition Sergey Stanishev, accompanied by the representatives of the representatives of the state administration, the Ambassador of Russia to Bulgaria Yuri Isakov, the Trade Representative of Russia in Bulgaria Alexander Tomilov and other Bulgarian and Russian officials, looked over the exhibition. He examined the stand of Atomstroyexport with a mock-up of WWER-1000 (NPP-92 project), a reactor of Russian design to be built at Belene NPP.
The stand of Atomstroyexport CSJC aroused great interest of the Bulgarian nuclear specialists, engineers, scientists, constructors, energy officials, representatives of state and public organizations and private companies.
On October 9, 2008 Atomstroyexport held a roundtable “Russian-Bulgarian Cooperation in the Field of NPP Construction.” The meeting was co-chaired by Gennady Tepkyan, vice-president of Atomstroyexport, and Iordan Georgiev, manager of Belene NPP project. Tepkyan pointed out that Belene NPP was a European project of high safety and efficiency. He pointed out the high efficiency of the Bulgarian organizations, which were performing construction works at the site of NPP Belene. Jordan Georgiev pointed out that Russia and Bulgaria enjoyed a 30-year history of fruitful cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering and that the works at Belene NPP are progressing well and according to schedule.
Representatives of Atomstroyexport CJSC, TVEL OJSC, Atomenergoproekt OJSC, Gidropress EDB made reports. The audience displayed vivid interest to the reports of the Russian specialists, the proof of which were numerous questions concerning the peculiarities of the project, training of personnel and many other problems.
The results of the meetings with Bulgarian colleagues have proved that Bulgaria shows serious approach to the problems of development of nuclear energy and cooperation with Russia in this field is very positively estimated on the part of the government of the country and also specialists.
During the exhibition the parties pointed out at all levels the strategic importance of Belene NPP project as one of the key economic events in the Russian-Bulgarian relations.
The Russian National Exhibition in Bulgaria has become an effective instrument for the further strengthening of the Russian-Bulgarian relations, development of the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering. The exhibition offered wide opportunities for Russian nuclear power engineers to exchange experience with their Bulgarian colleagues and to demonstrate their capacities in the field of NPP construction abroad.
