On the 17th of January 2008 the President of Atomstroyexport Sergey Shmatko went to Bulgaria with the Russian delegation headed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Within the frameworks of the official visit of the Russian President it is planned to sign a Contract Agreement between Atomstroyexport and National electric company (NEC) of Bulgaria on construction of Belene NPP.
On 31st of October 2006 National electric company (NEC) of Bulgaria officially declared Atomstroyexport (JSC ASE) a winner of the tender on construction of Belene NPP based on the Russian project “NPP-92” with two power generating units VVER-1000/В-466. It is an important achievement of Atomstroyexport gained in the open international tender together with French company Areva NP and concern Siemens over partnership of Skoda Allians and American company Westinghouse. By winning tender Atomstroyexport newly cleared the way to Europe for Russian nuclear technologies.
Preliminary Agreement on project implementation was signed in 2006. Atomstroyexport commenced the project execution from the 1st of January 2007. During the year Atomstroyexport completed development of NPP conceptual project, commenced preparation of Belene NPP technical project, which was practically composed, and started to form the project management on NPP site in Belene town.
Moreover, during 2007 Atomstroyexport conducted negotiations with NEC of Bulgaria on signing of the Contract Agreement which is planned to be signed on the 18th of January 2008.
