The consortium also includes Ukrainian enterprises “UTEM-Engineering" and design institute Atomenergostroyproject. Signing was implemented in the presence of Ukrainian Ministry of emergencies minister Vladimir Shandra during his visit to Chernobyl NPP. The contract has been awarded based on the results of the tender, which was carried out according to the EBRD rules and procedures. The project is financed by "Shelter” international fund. European Bank of Reconstruction and Development is the fund manager. On 13th of December 2007 the Chairman of the evaluation committee SIP PMU David Whitten at the delivery procedure of bid acceptance to the representative of Atomenergostroyproject Vitaly Dragunov noted that the decision on the contract awarding was approved by EBRD. The expert underlined that “such decision was made owing to Atomstroyexport renown and complete professionalism of its team working at Chernobyl NPP”. Mr. Whitten has also noted that Atomstroyexport applied modern and effective methods for project management that enabled “Stabilization” consortium to set the credibility and professionalism standard as well as safety and quality level at which all contractors at Chernobyl NPP should aim. The “Shelter” object safety furthering project includes the repair of “Shelter” light roof, installation of physical protection at access paths and jacking of support beams adjusting reinforcement metalware load up to 80 %. Atomstroyexport (ASE JSC) is a leading Russian company executing contracts on construction of nuclear power projects abroad. Along with the construction of four NPP in different countries, the company is engaged in execution of the “Shelter” project at Chernobyl NPP. Completion of the project first stage increased safety of “sarcophagus” and its safety operation life for 10-15 years.
