On November 25th, 2008 Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Mr. Victor Khristenko, and President of “San Group“ – Member of the Board of the Indian – Russian business Council, Mr. Kanal Nath, opened this exhibition in a solemn manner. A welcoming address of Chairman of the Government of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin, pointing out that the exhibition offers ample opportunities to become familiar with the innovation potential of our country, including electrical power engineering, was announced for participants and guests. A unified topical exposition of the enterprises of Rosatom State Corporation, including JSC Atomstroyexport, JSC Atomenergoprom, JSC TVEL, JSC Atomenergoproject, JSC Tekhsnabexport, VNIIA was presented within the framework of the exhibition. JSC Atomstroyexport demonstrated video- and information materials at its stand for various areas of its activity abroad, implemented projects, its practical potential. The greatest attention was given to Kudankulam NPP, an important project of strategic cooperation between Russia and India. JSC Atomstroyexport implements a nuclear power plant construction according to the intergovernmental agreement signed earlier. At present, Russia is the only foreign country that constructs NPP in India. Kudankulam NPP design meets all state-of-the-art international requirements on safety and includes two water-cooled water-moderated power reactors VVER of the third generation with capacity of 1000 MW each. The main feature of Kudankulam NPP design is application of the advanced equipment and introduction of additional passive safety systems in conjunction with active conventional systems, and this enhances power plant reliability. In February 2008 the Parties completed approval of the draft Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation for construction of four additional power units at Kudankulam NPP Site. It has been emphasized at the opening of the exhibition that cooperation between Russia and India is of a strategic nature, electrical power engineering, including nuclear power engineering, is the most important area of interaction of two countries. On November 25th, 2008 after the ceremony of the opening of the Russian national exhibition Mr. Victor Khristenko, accompanied by the representatives of the Indian authorities, Ambassador of Russia in India, Mr. V.I. Trubnikov, Trade representative of Russia in India, Mr. M.A. Rabotnov, other officials, examined the exposition of Rosatom State Corporation, became familiar with the stand of JSC Atomstroyexport, with a model of VVER-1000 nuclear power unit under AES-92 design. The exposition of JSC Atomstroyexport aroused interest of Indian nuclear experts, engineers, researchers, specialists in the areas of construction and repair, top managers of the energy branch of India, representatives of many enterprises and private companies. The Russian national exhibition in India became an efficient tool for further strengthening of Russian – Indian relationships, development of Russian – Indian cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering, it provided opportunities for a direct sharing of the professional experience with the Indian experts and demonstration of Russian capabilities in NPP construction abroad.
