Installation of ventilation stack of the reactor building is completed at Rooppur NPP Unit 1

26.07.2023

The ventilation stack has been installed in the design position of the reactor building at Unit 1 of Rooppur NPP, which is being constructed under the Russian design in Bangladesh.

The weight of the stack is 100 tons, its length is 67 meters. The extremely difficult operation for the installation of the structure was performed with the help of a powerful crane. The installation, which lasted for 8 hours, started from gradual transition of the stack into the vertical position. Then the stack was raised to the height of several meters for checking of the slings and stability of the crane, after which it was brought to the installation area.

“After completion of the ventilation stack, which is designed for removal of excessive heat and moisture from the reactor compartment, the upper level of the reactor has reached the elevation of +99.500, and if we count the lighting rod arrester, it is +101.000, being exceeded only by the 175-meter evaporation cooling towers”, said Alexey Deriy, Director for Roppur NPP Construction Project. “Currently, works for installation of large size equipment are under way at the Power Unit. In August, we will continue the installation of the passive heat removal system elements - one of the most important safety systems in the reactor building”.

For reference:

The Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors totalling to 2400 MW is being built according to the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with the General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors that had been successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.

The Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations.

The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world.

About 80% of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.

The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and innovative state-of-the-art technologies.

We construct reliable and safe NPPs with Gen III+ VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations.
