Unit 1 of Tianwan NPP, constructed by JSC Atomstroyexport, is being at maintenance outage

11.04.2011
Today on the 1st of March at 0:30 local time Unit 1 of Tianwan NPP (the People’s Republic of China), built under guidance of experts of Atomstroyexport JSC, company of the State Corporation Rosatom, has been routinely unloaded and shutdown for the fourth preventive maintenance outage. During the repair works partial refueling of the nuclear fuel will be accomplished. Special feature of this refueling process is introduction of the fuel to be used as the substitute, which is produced in China under the Russian license.
It is worth noticing that during the third fuel campaign first power unit of TNPP produced 7,58 bln kW/h, Unit operation was free of unplanned unloadings and shutdowns.

The second Unit of TNPP is now operating steadily with the rated contracted capacity of 1060 MW.

The first stage of Tianwan NPP was constructed by Atomstroyexport JSC in order to implement Intergovernmental Agreement between the Russian Federation and The People’s Republic of China on cooperation in construction of the NPP in China. Having put TNPP Units 1 & 2 in commission under warranty for the Chinese Contractor, Atomstroyexport, being the leader among the companies at the NPP construction market, built nuclear power plant of the new generation. In 2009 its 2-year warranty operation was completed.

In August 2010 at Lianyungang Symposium of the participants of the TNPP construction the Chinese Party announced: the record in the long-time continuous operation during the first fuel cycle had been achieved among the NPPs performing in China.

Tianwan NPP closed the year 2010 with high power generation and safety performance. TNPP generated 15,7 bln kW/h, which exceeds fixed plan by 4,66 % and energy-production of the year 2009 by 11%.

On the 23rd of November 2010 in Saint Petersburg the General Contract on construction of the second stage of Tianwan NPP was signed between Atomstroyexport JSC and Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC). According to the General Contract Atomstroyexport JSC shall construct Units 3& 4 of Tianwan NPP upon the project, which is similar to the first stage: two power units of the Russian design with VVER-1000 reactors. JNPC shall be responsible for design and equipment procurement for the conventional island of the NPP.

Signing of the General Contract on construction of the second stage of Tianwan NPP proves high scientific and technical level of domestic nuclear power engineering, experience and competence of Russian designers and vendors of nuclear power plant equipment. New phase of collaboration between Russia and China in this field provides a good basis for strengthening of dominant positions of Atomstroyexport JSC on the international competitive market of NPP construction.
