On 22nd December Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company «Atomenergoproekt» (JSC NIAEP) celebrates Power Engineer’s Day and sums up the results of the expiring year 2011

22.12.2011
Valery Limarenko, Director of JSC NIAEP, told Nizhny Novgorod reporters about the main achievements of the company in the year 2011 and its development prospects for the coming year. This year NIAEP celebrated its 60th anniversary. Today NIAEP is a big player on the power market with considerable work experience, rich traditions and authority - a sound background for expanding its activities onto the Russian and foreign markets. The key event of the expiring year is pre-commissioning activities at Kalinin NPP-4. JSC NIAEP is the prime contractor in this project. On 24th November the power program was launched at Unit 4 of Kalinin NPP. On 12th December in the presence of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Russian Federation government, the power unit started operating at 50% level of its rated capacity; thus, an important step was accomplished allowing for putting the power unit into pilot operation. Kalinin NPP-4 is the biggest investment project in the Tver Region. The commissioning of the power unit is significant for the national economy - contributing 1000 MW into the power grid of Russia and strengthening the country’s energy security. Kalinin NPP-4 is a project where the most advanced technologies in job management and performance were applied. For the power industry this project means a return to series construction of power plants; and it is also notable for successful deployment of Rosatom Production System. “Our company has commissioned 2 power units so far – Rostov NPP-2 (commissioned in 2010) and Kalinin NPP-4 (power program was launched in November 2011). Rostov NPP-3 is the next project (physical criticality program is scheduled for 2014). And we are planning to speed up construction and to step out to new territories”, Valery Limarenko observed. In October 2011 NIAEP became the prime contractor for construction of Baltic NPP-1, 2. At present the companying is building five power units in Russia: Kalinin NPP-4, Rostov NPP- 3&4, and Baltic NPP-1&2.In November a merger was launched to consolidate two competencies, namely, JSC NIAEP, a leading engineering company in the Russian nuclear power industry, and JSC ASE, a Russian company that provides services for constructing nuclear power facilities abroad. At present, Valery Limarenko, Director of NIAEP, is acting president of JSC «Atomstroyexport». “Consolidation of the two leading companies will produce a synergetic effect and will enhance competitive capacities of the both companies”, Valery Limarenko said. “JSC NIAEP will significantly increase the scale of its activities by expanding them geographically. JSC ASE will benefit from Multi-D technology. The both companies will be working on 18 projects being implemented simultaneously in Russia and abroad.”The consolidated companies will have a network of project management offices: - Office in Nizhny Novgorod providing engineering and construction services for Kalinin NPP, Rostov NPP and Nizhny Novgorod NPP;- Office in Moscow in charge of constructing nuclear power facilities abroad – in China, India, Turkey and Vietnam;- Office in St-Petersburg providing engineering and construction services for Baltic NPP and Belorussia NPP.
Besides, there are 13 offices representing the company’s interests in current and future projects in 10 countries in Europe and Asia: Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Iran, India, China, Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. In Germany our company is represented via an affiliate - Nukem Technologies. “Our company is becoming the largest EPC-company in the world providing “turn-key” services in NPP engineering and construction. Since January 2012 the number of employees will increase to 4 ths, and taking the personnel of the affiliates into account – up to 7 thousand people. In the next two or three years NIAEP will be the biggest tax payer in the region. This year the government has issued a decree on construction of Nizhny Novgorod NPP. In 2012 we will start designing the plant and we are planning to start preparatory works in the middle of the year. This event will give rise to an atomic cluster. A nuclear power plant is a missing element in this cluster which will unite not only nuclear power enterprises but also machine builders and professional equipment makers, construction companies and scientific, research and educational establishments. Nizhny Novgorod NPP Project will be based on the VVER-TOI Project, the most advanced project in the nuclear industry. On 8th December Rosatom, State atomic energy Corporation, adopted a decision that the VVER TOI Project would be taken as the basis for Nizhny Novgorod NPP project and adapted for the location specific requirements. VVER TOI Project means a standard optimized project of a nuclear power plant of large capacity with a water-moderated reactor (VVER). This project will allow reduction of engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning costs.
NIAEP is a leader in deployment and application of Multi-D technology. For the first time in Russia and in the world the company is developing an information system for NPP life cycle management – from design to decommissioning. This life cycle management system will be adopted in VVER TOI project. According to the nuclear power industry development program this project will be finalized by the end of the year 2012. In June 2011 NIAEP organized the first International forum «Smart Engineering. Complex Product Life Cycle Management». For the first time in Russia, CAD and PLM software suppliers – over 300 specialists from 15 countries – gathered in Nizhny Novgorod. “We will be holding the second forum in summer 2012,” Limarenko said. “It will focus on the information environment for managing NPP construction. In fact, the second forum will be about on-line construction data gathering, while the first forum was about the information environment for managing NPP designing activities”. The company is growing “younger” meaning that the average age of the personnel amounts to 39,1 years. Employees under the age of 35 years form 41% of the staff. According to the personnel study, conducted at the enterprises of Rosatom, the personnel involvement level at the central office of the company (in Nizhny Novgorod) amounts to 80%, thus, approaching the best European employers (82%). This figure is significantly higher than the figures at other enterprises in Russia including production companies (46%).“We are facing a huge challenge of transforming our company into the key player in the nuclear power field not only in Russia but also in the world. I’m sure that our highly professional and responsible team is able to accomplish this task”, Limarenko, Director of NIAEP, added up.
