On 12th December, 2011, at the presence of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Russian Federation government, Kalinin power unit N 4 started operating at 50% level of its rated capacity. Thus, an important step was accomplished allowing for putting the power unit into pilot operation.At the main control room of power unit N 4 the chairman of the RF government gave the go-ahead for power build-up to 500 MW, and the personnel started the operation. Accompanied by Sergey Kirienko, General Director of the State Corporation “Rosatom”, V. Putin walked around the site of Unit N 4. During the walk Valery Limarenko, Head of Kalinin NPP-4 construction project, reported on the technical innovations applied during the construction of the plant to enhance its safety.V. Putin answered in detail all the questions that were asked during his meeting with the power unit 4 construction team and Kalinin NPP staff. At the end of the visit the Chairman of the government congratulated the workers and wished them success.On the same day Sergey Kirienko, General Director of the State Corporation “Rosatom”, granted State Awards for outstanding contribution into the nuclear power industry and for the power start-up of Kalinin NPP-4. Among the honorees there were employees of JSC NIAEP: Vladimir Belov, Technical First Deputy Director, and Igor Kruuz, Deputy Director – Director of Udomlya Branch who were presented with Order of Honor; and Nickolay Sheshokin, Human Resources Deputy Director, who was awarded with the medal of the Order “For merits to the Fatherland” 1st class. Vitaly Stepanov, Chief Engineer of the Udomlya Branch of JSC NIAEP, was conferred the title “Meritorious Builder of the Russian Federation”. Sergey Kirienko also granted ministerial awards for outstanding personal contribution into the power start-up of Kalinin NPP-4. The Medals “For merits to nuclear industry” 2nd class were awarded to the following employees of JSC NIAEP: - Nickolay Petrenko, Deputy Director, Head of Volgodonsk Branch;- Vitaly Polyanin, Head of the Management of electric installation works;- Sergey Razumov, Head of the Management of mechanical installation works.Valery Limarenko, Director of JSC NIAEP, commented on the day so important for the nuclear industry and the company: “I congratulate everyone who participated in construction of Unit 4! We’ve been ploughing long and hard towards this day, working with exertion! Today we are proud that we have fulfilled the task set by the Government! Please, accept my sincerest congratulations on our common victory – one for all!” Reference:Kalinin NPP is an affiliated branch of JSC Concern Rosenergoatom. The power plant is located in the north of Tver Oblast in the Udomlya Region. Kalinin NPP includes three operating power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) of 1000 MW capacity each. Power Unit N 4 is under construction, its commissioning is scheduled for the year 2011. JSC NIAEP(V.I. Limarenko – the Director) is the Prime Construction Contractor for Power Unit N 4.
