JSC Atomstroyexport carries out hydraulic tests of the primary circuit equipment of Kudankulam NPP

21.01.2011
Under technical support of JSC Atomstroyexport (JSC ASE), a company of the State Corporation Rosatom, the hydraulic test of the primary circuit equipment of the Kudankulam NPP (India) first power unit with pressure of 250 kg/cm3 has been successfully performed. All power unit systems were stable in operation.
The hydraulic test of the equipment of the NPP primary and secondary circuits is a technical milestone at the final phase of NPP construction. The test is aimed at the strength testing of the main plant equipment. The safety is of primary importance for construction of nuclear facilities.
Preparation for hydraulic test at the Kudankulam NPP first power unit had been started well before. The main power unit equipment involved in the primary circuit heating-up and pressure build-up had been prepared and put into operation.
Stepwise pressure build-up was carried out according to the test program. The figure 250 kg/cm3 is the highest possible pressure for hydraulic test. It exceeds the reactor “operating pressure” by 40%; this fact confirms high safety and safe-load factor of the NPP.
