The first phase of Tianwan NPP consisting of two power units was constructed by Atomstroyexport JSC in order to implement the Intergovernmental Agreement between RF and PRC concerning cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant in PRC. Having put the first unit of Tianwan NPP into guarantee operation for the Chinese customer on June 2, 2007, and the second unit – on September 12, 2007, Atomstroyexport was the first to construct power units of new generation in the international market of NPP construction. Two year guarantee operation of Tianwan NPP units 1 and 2 was accomplished in 2009. Tianwan NPP constructed under updated Russian design is the most state-of-the-art plant among nuclear plants operating in PRC.
At the Symposium of Tianwan NPP Construction Participants held in August 2010 in Lianyungang the Chinese party stated: the plant had achieved a record among the NPPs operated in China with regard to duration of continuous operation within the period of the first fuel cycle.
