On 27th January the names of five students of Nizhny Novgorod University of Architecture and Civil Engineering – Pozdyshev “atomic” scholarship holders - are announced

During 2011/2012 academic year JSC NIAEP will pay a monthly allowance of 5 000 RUR to each of the students. The scholarship holders are 5th year students of Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNSUACE), pertaining to its two subdivisions – Institute of Civil Engineering and Institute of Environmental Engineering Systems & Structures. 19 senior students of NNSUACE applied for the scholarship. The academic council of the University considered the students who have had high grades during all the years of study, who have conducted research work, have won prizes at scientific conferences and contests and have had work practice in NIAEP. In accordance with the developed screening procedure the applicants did tasks in writing, participated in business games, related to nuclear topics, and were interviewed by NIAEP managers and chief specialists. On 27th January, Yury Ivanov, first deputy director at JSC NIAEP, officially announced the names of the winners. Professor Evgeny Koposov, head of NNSUACE, administration representatives and students were present at the announcement ceremony. The event started with showing «Kalinin- 4. History of our Time”, a documentary produced by the television team of KNPP public information center. Kalinin power unit 4 was commissioned in 2011. At the end of November, power program was started at the unit, JSC NIAEP being designer and prime contractor in the project. Then Yury Ivanov told the students about the activities of JSC NIAEP. “Last year JSC NIAEP marked its 60th anniversary. During these years the design institute has evolved into an EPC-company. Since 2007 we not only design nuclear power plants, but we also build them on the “turnkey” basis in Russia and abroad. For over 10 years we have been deploying innovative technologies which help the company to be a leader in engineering not only in Russia but also in the world, said Yury Ivanov, - The young people, who are eager to work in NIAEP, should be ready to master new technologies and to adapt themselves in a team in order to become full-scale engineers in three months”. Pozdyshev scholarship holders for the 2011/2012 academic year are: Olga Ryabova, Elena Sousyaeva and Anna Toumanova, five-year students of NNSUACE Institute of Civil Engineering (specializing in industrial and civil engineering) and Ivan Bocharnikov and Inna Marutina, five-year students of NNSUACE Institute of Environmental Engineering Systems & Structures (specializing in HVAC). “Atomic” scholarships are granted to NNSUACE students within the framework of Cooperation Agreement between Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company “Atomenergoproekt” and Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The agreement was signed at an official ceremony. It also covers target training of specialists for NIAEP, externship and internship for NNSUACE students at NIAEP, engagement of NIAEP chief specialists in elaborating and delivering new courses of lectures, supplying NIAEP-specific equipment for laboratories and employment of the best students of the university. “Open strategic partnership is very important for our university”, Pr. Evgeny Koposov, head of NNSUACE says, “During recent years you’ve made a real breakthrough having become an EPC - company. To prepare specialists for a company of such corporate culture the educational level of students needs to be continuously improved and our partnership will contribute to it in many ways”. NNSUACE is the second higher educational establishment that officially cooperates with JSC NIAEP. Since 2010 “atomic” scholarships have been granted to students of R.Y. Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University. In this period 20 senior students of the university have become scholarship holders and 10 of them have been employed at NIAEP.

Erik Nickolaevich Pozdyshev, advisor of JSC Concern Rosenergoatom general director, - a legendary figure in Russia’s nuclear industry. Here are some facts from his personal history: - first director of Chernobyl NPP after the accident; - first head of concern “Rosenergoatom” – largest energy concern in RF; - over 50 years of nuclear field work experience; - awarded with the order of Lenin, the order of Honor. He was born in 1937 in Krasnoyarsk. In 1960 he graduated in physics from Leningrad State University. In the same year he started working in the nuclear industry – employed as an engineer at the mining and chemical combine (Krasnoyarsk-26). He put much effort and energy into his work, holding posts of responsibility such as reactor shop shift supervisor, deputy manager of reactor shop at Leningrad NPP, operation chief engineer at Kursk NPP, head of technical department, deputy chief of “Soyuzatomenergo”, Ministry of energy, USSR. In 1986 he was director of Smolensk NPP. From 1986 to 1987 he did a lot for liquidation of Chernobyl accident consequences holding the position of Chernobyl NPP director. From 1992 he held the posts of president, vice-president – general inspector, deputy general director – general inspector of FSUE concern “Rosenergoatom” (at present JSC concern Rosenergoatom). For achievements and excellent service of many years Erik Nickolaevich Pozdyshev was awarded with the Order of Lenin, Order of the Badge of Honor, Order of Honor, decorated with “For Labor Merit” medal, 850th Anniversary of Moscow Medal, “For merits in NPP safety improvement” medal of Concern Rosenergoatom and presented with certificate of honor from Atomic Energy Ministry of RF. He was conferred the following titles: “Veteran of Nuclear Power Engineering and Industry” and “Honored Power Man of Russian Federation”.
