On January 13th, 2012, a meeting of the Rostov 3&4 construction control panel was held where the key targets of the coming year were defined. “The coming year will be full of events, however, undoubtedly, erection of the reactor vessel in its proper location will be the major one. According to the plan it is to take place in September 2012,” said Alexander Khazin, Construction Site Manager - Director of JSC NIAEP Volgodonsk Branch, enumerating the upcoming construction targets among which there will be tensioning of the containment building and unit N 3 in-house power supply. Besides, during the meeting the results of the expired year were reviewed and the January targets were set with plans to increase the amount of construction and installation works in 2012. Alexander Palamartchuk, director of Rostov NPP, representative of the Customer (JSC Concern Rosenergoatom), underlined: “This year will be crucial for power unit N 3. The physical criticality program launch will depend on construction works performance time.”The task for the next month is to erect the Unit 3 reactor containment up to level + 55,600. At the present time, the construction companies SMU-1 and “Trust RosSEM” are laying concrete for the second tier of the containment at level +46,500. Construction and erection works will be gradually replaced with mechanical and electric works. The number of workers at Rostov NPP construction sites will rise up to 6 500 people by the middle of the year.

Rostov NPP is a branch of JCS Concern Rosenergoatom. The plant is located on the bank of Tsimlyansk water basin at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. Two power units with reactor type VVER-1000 of installed capacity 1000 MW, are in operation; power unit N 1 was commissioned in 2001, unit N 2 – in December 2010. Units N 3&4 are under construction.
