On 6th March, 2012, a regular meeting of the Rostov NPP 3&4 construction project control panel was held in Volgodonsk (Rostov Oblast). Valery Limarenko, JSC NIAEP director and project manager, chaired the meeting where representatives of the group company Rosenergoatom (the Customer), JSC NIAEP (general contractor) and subcontractors took part. Prior to the meeting there was a tour of the power units 3&4 construction site. At the control panel meeting Alexander Khazin, deputy director – director of NIAEP Volgodonsk branch, reported on the progress of construction works. He informed the participants of the meeting that 5 pilot projects under Rosatom Production System are being executed on the site, namely: Labor Safety Management System, Electronic Document Workflow, Multi-D Field Engineering, Procurement Management from Contracting to Incoming Control and Equipment, Material and Documentation Bar Coding. Then Khazin presented the list of the key operations and objectives for power units 3&4 in 2012 and reported on fulfillment of the tasks in January and February. The key January tasks were done (unit 3 nuclear building flooring at level 24,600 and erection of reinforced concrete outlet channel from unit 4 turbine hall). The key February tasks were done as well (floor was concreted at level +19.340 in the unit 3 hermetic containment; walls of the transport corridor (unit 4) were concreted up to level 6,60 with the gate part embedded). A 20 t capacity crane has been erected in the unit 3 turbine hall. The key objectives for March are as follows: erection of reactor cavity cylindrical section, placement of reactor support truss in the unit 3 reactor compartment, erection of unit 4 deaerator compartment column metal works and some other tasks. Further the control panel proceeded with reporting on quality of NPP construction, highlighting the quality of documentation, supplied equipment etc. Valery Limarenko summed up the results of the work of the control panel: “The situation at the construction site is not simple but everyone keeps working. There are open points concerning the number of personnel, delivery of some types of equipment and mastering a number of new technologies. Nevertheless, I am sure that the problems will be resolved as the teams, working on the construction site, are focused on fulfilling the set tasks”.

A quality management system was introduced in the company complying with the requirements of the international standards. It was successfully certified in the TUV SUD international center.
Rostov NPP is a branch of JCS Concern Rosenergoatom. The plant is located on the bank of Tsimlyansk water basin at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. Two power units with reactor type VVER-1000 of installed capacity 1000 MW, are in operation; power unit N 1 was commissioned in 2001, unit N 2 – in December 2010. Units N 3&4 are under construction. Nizhny Novgorod engineering company “Atomenergoproekt” (NIAEP, www.niaep.ru) is the general contractor. The company is part of State atomic energy corporation “Rosatom”.
