On 29 th October on the Rostov NPP site the reactor containment of Unit 3 was lifted and erected. This important operation was performed by specialists of ROSSEM Volgodonsk trust.
The second tier of the reactor containment that weights 165 tons and 37 meters in diameter was assembled on the ground and lifted by one of the biggest cranes in the world –KROLL. This unique machinery can lift burdens up to 240 tons in weight. Totally, there are 15 such cranes in the world; one of them is used on the Rostov NPP Unit3 construction site.
It took about an hour to lift the reactor containment to its proper location. The work process was supervised from the beginning to the end by Andrey Salnikov, Director of the Rostov NPP, Alexander Hazin, Director of JSC NIAEP-JSC ASE branch in Volgodonsk (General Contractor of the Rostov NPP construction) and authorities of subcontracting organizations.
Alexander Hazin, Director of JSC NIAEP-JSC ASE branch in Volgodonsk, said that the operation marked the beginning of a new stage – organization of a “clean” area in the hermetic area and start of the capital equipment assembly: reactor vessel, steam generators, prime circuit pipe. Another crucial event of this year is flooring of the 45 th elevation of the reactor compartment Unit 3. Completion of these works is scheduled on the end of 2012.
The Rostov NPP is a branch of JSC “Concern Rosenergoatom”. The Nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk water reservoir within 13, 5 km from Volgodonsk. Two units of reactor type VVER-1000 of installed capacity 1000MW are in operation; Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001, Unit2- in December 2010.
Units 3&4 are being constructed. General contractor is JSC Nizhniy Novgorod engineering company Atomenergoproekt (NIAEP, company site www.niaep.ru). The enterprise is within State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom.
JSC Concern Rosenergoatom is customer-constructor “Capital construction management of the Rostov NPP”.
