Baltic NPP: Works on flooring concreting of annular floor in the reactor compartment of the Baltic NPP Unit 1 will reach elevation -1,250

05.06.2013
On June 5, 2013 on the Baltic NPP site the control board for Unit 1&2 construction held another monthly meeting. The meeting headed by Alexander Polushkin, JSC NIAEP Senior Vice-President of projects management, was attended by Dmitry Tveritinov, First Deputy Director of “Otraslevoy Tsentr Kapitalnogo stroitelstva”, by Evgeny Vlasenko, Head of the Baltic NPP Directionate, by Vyacheslav Makhonin, Director of JSC NIAEP Baltic branch and by some others representatives of industrial and subcontracting organizations. During the meeting Vyacheslav Makhonin, Director of JSC NIAEP Baltic branch, reported on performance results and on scheduled key events: “ The CAW May schedule is executed on 105%. Was completed reinforcing of the safety building walls from elevation -8,800 to -4,100, arrangement of internal constructions of the reactor compartment from elevation -8,68 to - 4,45, concreting of the office building walls from elevation -7,300 to -4,00. Among the key June events are works on flooring concreting of the annular floor in the reactor compartment at elevation -1,250, and coating of the reactor vault casing with anticorrosive coating up to elevation +8,000”.Alexander Polushkin, JSC NIAEP Senior Vice-President of projects management, informed the meeting members on a taken decision to extend the project of Baltic NPP by additional deployment of power units of low and medium capacity. “This decision stems from a possibility and a strong probability of the Baltic countries’ synchronizing with a common European energy system. If it happens, the Kaliningrad region will be isolated with regard to provision and acquisition of electricity,- claimed Alexander Polushkin. – As suggest JSC Yantarenergo projections in such situation the energy system of the Kaliningrad region is likely to work steadily only if the basic load will be borne by local electricity resources with installed capacity not less several hundred megawatts. While energy resources with major installed capacity in the isolated energy system will be unable to provide steady work of the energy system in the conditions of the redundancy lack”.In this view, in the words of Alexander Polushkin, was taken a decision to work out variants for correction of the construction and assembly works schedule for some construction objects of the Baltic NPP for the decision-making period on configuration of the Baltic NPP site with power units of different capacity. At the same time, JSC NIAEP for the correction period of design documentation is ready to carry on talks with subcontracting organizations to “offer them additional scopes of works on the sites, particularly on the Rostov NPP Unit 3&4, Belorussian NPP site, and in near future on the site of the Kursk NPP-2”. In their turn, Dmitry Tveritinov, First Deputy Director of “Otraslevoy Tsentr Kapitalnogo stroitelstva” of the SC Rosatom, declared that design institutes were assigned with the task to present several variants of possible location of units of low and medium capacity on the Baltic NPP site. “The second problem that we must solve is to clearly define what works may be executed and what works must be suspended to provide further easy start, continuing construction of units of large capacity”- said Dmitry Tveritinov. The next meeting of the control board will be held next month.

Construction of the Baltic NPP is being implemented within the Cooperation Agreement between the State Corporation Rosatom and the Government of Kalingrad Region, and the Declaration of Intent on the Baltic NPP investment project, confirmed by Rosatom and approved by the Kalningrad regional Duma. On 25 September, 2009, Chairman of the Russian Government Vladimir Putin signed a Decree on construction of Baltic Nuclear Power Station on the territory of Kalingrad Region, consisting of two units of overall capacity 2300 MW. The commission term of Unit 1 is 2016 year, Unit 2 -2018. On 25th September 2010 Sergey Ivanov, Vice Prime Minister, and Sergey Kirienko, Head of Rosatom, took part in the official ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the power plant.. It was the kickoff for pre-construction works. In 2011 the NPP construction was licensed by Rostechnadzor. General contractor of NPP construction is NIAEP, and customer – JSC “Concern Rosenergoatom”.
