TNPP-2 Power Unit No. 3: RB Containment Dome Successfully Erected

22.12.2014
The containment dome of the reactor building of power unit No. 3 was erected at the Tianwan NPP -2 site on December 20th, 2014.
The total weight of the large-size steel structure amounted to 341,022 tons. The containment dome was lifted with the help of a “ZOOMLION” ZCC3200NP crane of lifting capacity 3200 tons. The lifting operation lasted about one hour and a half.
According to President of NIAEP, managing body of ASE and managing body of AEP Valery Limarenko it is very important for the company that Tianwan NPP was recognized as one of the safest nuclear power plants in China. The second phase of TNPP is being constructed according to the schedule which is really rare in the world practice for new construction projects.
The erection of the dome means the beginning of the next stage – organization of “clean” zone in the containment and start of erection of the main equipment.
The containment is the fourth barrier ensuring safety. The double containment of the reactor building with a dome prevents release of radioactive substances into the environment and serves as a physical protection of the equipment, placed inside the containment, against external natural and man-made impacts including earthquakes, storms, tsunami and aircraft crash.
The next stage of construction works includes erection of the main equipment: steam generators and main coolant pipelines.
After completion of construction of the inner containment and post-tensioning of the concrete shell of the reactor building, construction of the outer containment will be started.
“We believe that construction and pre-commissioning activities for the TNPP second phase will be completed on schedule, which means that two more safe power units will appear in China just in time”, noted Valery Limarenko.
Forreference. The containment dome is assembled out of carbon steel slabs, 6 mm thick, the diameter of the lower part is 44 m, the height is 22 m, the dome is semispherical, its weight is about 258 t, the weight of the sprinkler pipelines, cables and air ducts mounted inside the dome is 83 t, the total weight of the structure is about 341 t, the lifting radius is 105.4 m. Today it’s the largest containment dome in China.
Forreference. In October2009 the State Corporation Rosatom and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) signed a protocol in which they confirmed the wish and intent to continue cooperation in construction of the second phase of Tianwan NPP – power unit 3 and 4. On September 27th, 2010, during the visit of President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to the People’s Republic of China, a contract was signed for development of the detailed project report for the second phase of the plant. On November 23rd, 2010, in St-Petersburg, ZAO Atomstroyexport and JNPC signed the general contract for construction of Tianwan NPP power units 3 and 4.
According to the general contract the merged company NIAEP-ASE constructs power units 3 and 4 following the design similar to the design of the first phase: two power units of Russian design with VVER-1000 reactors. JNPC designs the non-nuclear island of the TNPP second phase and supplies equipment for it.
For reference:
The merged company JSC NIAEP – CJSC Atomstroyexport is a leader in the nuclear engineering business and covers 30 % of the NPP construction global market. In October 2014 JSC NIAEP was made the sole executive body of JSC Atomenergoproekt.
The representative and front offices of the Company carry out operations in 15 countries worldwide, almost 80% of the orders of the company include overseas projects.
Furthermore, the company carries out radioactive waste and spent fuel management projects and heat power engineering projects and also provides the complete range of EPC, EPC(m) and PMC services for any complex engineering projects. In the segment of construction of radwaste and spent fuel management facilities the Company ranks among the top 10 biggest world players.
The merged company develops and actively implements an innovative management system for complex construction projects - Multi-D, which enables to manage more effectively such parameters as: schedule, quality and budget.
