The five-year project of service life extension of Kalinin NPP power unit No. 1 in which all the departments of the Design Unit of JSC NIAEP- JSC ASE took active part, has been successfully completed.
On 27th June 2014 Rostechnadzor issued to the group company Rosenergoatom a license for service life extension of power unit No. 1 through to 2025.
According to Yury Ivanov, Senior vice-president of designing at JSC NIAEP, the service life extension project of a power plant has been realized for the first time in the history of the company. The specialists of JSC NIAEP developed the investment project, analyzed the plant against the compliance with the effective norms and regulations and also participated in the activities of the commissions examining the condition of the power unit and actively worked with the expert and regulatory bodies.
Power unit No. 1 of Kalinin NPP has been in operation since 1984.
KalininNPP:
Kalinin NPP is located in Tver Oblast, Udomlya.
In May 1970 it was decided to build Kalinin NPP. The Gorky branch of Teploenergoproekt Institute (currently, JSC NIAEP) became the General Designer of Kalinin NPP, the experimental design bureau Gidropress was the Chief Designer of the reactor plant, the Kurtchatov Institute of Atomic Energy was the scientific supervisor.
The design of the plant made provisions for construction of two phases, each having two power units with pressure vessel water-moderated reactors (VVER) of capacity 1000 MW.
The construction of power unit No. 1 started in 1974 and had the Komsomol construction status. Its power program started on 9th May 1984.
In 1986 1000 MW power unit No. 2 was commissioned.
The Kalinin NPP expansion project to have the capacity of 4000 MW (II phase, units No. 3 and 4) was approved in 1985.
Power unit No. 3 was commissioned in 2005, power unit No. 4 – in 2011.
With regard to the technical level and safety level the Kalinin power units comply with all the up-to-date requirements.
