Hot performance tests of the Nuclear Steam Generating Plant got underway at Kudankulam NPP Unit 2 in India – one of the core pre-steps for the Unit start-up.
According to Mr. Vladimir Saytiev, Head of department for NPP construction in India (NIAEP-ASE), hot performance tests are a comprehensive checkup of all systems and equipment prior to NPP unit physical start-up. In fact, this is the last phase of testing before loading of nuclear fuel into the reactor. The hot testing will verify the design operation of all process systems and equipment, process control systems, i.e. overall electrical equipment of Unit 2 and plant systems.
As Mr. V. Saytiev noted, “All procedures and tests prior to the NPP Unit 2 commissioning are carried out at an advanced engineering level in compliance with all requirements, codes and standards of the nuclear power industry.
Background information:
Kudankulam NPP construction is based on AES-92 design that fully meets the requirements of the modern regulatory documents of Russia and IAEA, and is certified for compliance with EUR.
Certificate of the Provisional Takeover of Kudankulam NPP Unit 1 was signed on December 27, 2014 by Nuclear Power Corporation of India and NIAEP-ASE. The power unit was handed over for the warranty period of one year up to the end of 2015.
