On February 29, 2016 at 20:00 p.m. one of the crucial construction milestones, i.e. welding of the main circulation pipeline started in the reactor compartment of the Rostov NPP Unit 4.
The main circulation pipeline (850 mm in diameter, 70 mm thick walls, total length over 130 m) connects the main equipment of the primary circuit: reactor, steam generators and main circulation pumps. The main circulation pipeline is used for circulation of coolant, which is water of 350ºC under pressure of 17,6 MPa.
Four groups of welders of the higher 6th grade will be engaged in the welding works. “Totally, 28 joints must be welded. Schedule of works is approved, each of the 36 welders is assigned with tasks, - marked Alexey Kononenko, Director of the Rostov NPP construction. – Concurrent with the welding works, a step-by-step control of all performed operations will be exerted, i.e. visual, measuring, radiographic, capillary and ultrasonic types of control.
The main circulation pipeline of the Rostov NPP Unit 3 was welded in 143 days. The main circulation pipeline of the Leningrad NPP-2 was welded in 109 days. Welding the main circulation pipeline of the Novovoronezh NPP-2 took 102 days.
