Full-scale simulator put in operation at the second stage of Tianwan NPP

22.06.2016
In June 2016, Atomstroyexport JSC (ASE JSC) has commissioned a full-scale simulator for Units 3 & 4 of Tianwan NPP (TNPP), which replicates the NPP main control room to the full extent. The full-scale simulator (FSS) is designed for Chinese operators’ training.
Due to requirements of Chinese supervising authorities, training of operating personnel of TNPP second stage shall start well in advance of real power unit readiness. ASE JSC fulfilled its contractual obligations related to the FSS commissioning 15 months prior to the first fuel loading. Based on the schedule, fuel shall be loaded into Unit 3 in the end of August 2017.
According to ASE Director for Chinese projects, Mr. A. Bannik: “Fuel loading into the reactor is one of the most important and responsible phases of NPP construction. To obtain a permit for loading, a range of preparatory measures shall be taken, including training of the operating personnel. Now the full-scale simulator (FSS) serves this purpose at the NPP. One can practice the unit approaching minimum controlled reactor power (MCRP), unit power ascension, power reduction, shutdown and personnel’s actions in case of an emergency in the conditions which are as close to the reality as possible.”
The second stage of TNPP (Units 3 & 4) are unique because this is the first time when an overseas project of ASE JSC applies the Russian reactor plant in combination with the half-speed turbine produced in China. The simulator put in operation by ASE JSC fully models the control of power unit being a part of Tianwan NPP.

For reference. Cooperation in the construction of Units 3 & 4 of Tianwan NPP is based on Russian-Chinese Intergovernmental Protocol on cooperation in the construction of Units 3 and 4 of Tianwan NPP on the territory of the People’s Republic of China, dated 06.12.2012. ASE JSC participates in the construction of Units 3 and 4 of Tianwan NPP as a Supplier in cooperation with Chinese companies: Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC), China Nuclear Power Engineering (CNPE), China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) (the Customer).
The Russian party represented by ASE JSC is in charge of design and supply of “nuclear island” (NI) equipment, as well as it undertakes general technical responsibility for the NPP project as a whole.
The Chinese party is in charge of design and supply of equipment for all buildings and facilities not related to the NI and of some NI equipment.
Construction of Tianwan NPP is based on Russian design VVER-1000 (V-428) by ATOMPROEKT JSC (St. Petersburg). The general contract stipulates commissioning of Unit 3 in February 2018, commissioning of Unit 4 - in December 2018. All activities are being carried out within the planned time in accordance with the schedule.
