September 10, 2016 will see the solemn ground-breaking ceremony for Bushehr-2 NPP construction being implemented within the framework of the Russian and Iranian cooperation. The contract stipulates construction of two power units of Bushehr NPP (Nos. 2&3).
The Russian delegation will be headed by the Director General of Rosatom State Corporation Mr. S.V. Kirienko. The ceremony will be attended by the President of ASE Group of Companies Mr. V.I. Limarenko.
The first power unit of Bushehr NPP was connected to the national power grid of Iran on September 3, 2011. This power plant constructed under Russian assistance, have become the first NPP for the Middle East region.
In November 2014, Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD) and Atomstroyexport JSC (ASE JSC) signed two contracts: for construction of power units (Nos. 2&3) of Bushehr NPP on a turn-key basis, as well as for engineering surveys and collection of initial data for Bushehr-2 NPP. The total capacity of two power units of VVER-1000 type should constitute 2.1 thousand MW. Bushehr-2 project general contractor is ASE JSC.
The NPP will be constructed under a new design of generation III+. The design got EUR (European Utilities Requirements) certificate. Bushehr-2 NPP shall implement unique technologies and up-to-date solutions, as well as the new safety concept.
On September 10, the Russian and the Iranian parties will start the works under this project.

On 20.04.2016, Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD) obtained the license for operation of Bushehr NPP unit No. 1, in the Iranian National Licensing and Supervisory Authority for Nuclear Power Plants and Other Nuclear Plants in the Islamic Republic of Iran (INRA).
Iranian specialists, in May 2016, started full-fledged operation of the first power unit of Bushehr NPP.
